Meera Darji is a Lecturer in Film at St Mary's University, where she also serves as Programme Director for Criminology and Sociology. Previously, she was a visiting lecturer in Criminology at Westminster University (2014–2017). Her professional background spans 15 years in criminal justice research, policy development, and evaluation, including roles such as Policy and Research Manager at Nacro, a crime reduction charity. She focuses on addressing ethnic disproportionality in the criminal justice system and promotes alternatives to traditional criminal justice approaches.
Her engagement with the voluntary sector includes leadership roles: Chair of Voice4Change England (V4CE), trustee of the Coalition for Racial Justice (UK), and steering group member of the Reclaim Justice Network. She advocates for accountable policing through membership in StopWatch and contributes to national advisory groups like the Lola Young Review and HMIC’s PEEL Effectiveness Advisory Group. Her teaching integrates policy and research to encourage critical analysis of crime and justice issues.
Meera’s work emphasizes the voluntary sector’s role in fostering civil society through restorative practices and policy reform. She actively participates in initiatives to diversify policing and enhance community trust through fair and effective practices.
