Meegan Kennedy is an Associate Professor and Associate Chair of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of English at Florida State University (FSU) within the College of Arts and Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. from Brown University (2000), an M.A. from the University of Virginia (1992), and a B.A. from Yale University (1988).
Her research focuses on Victorian literature and culture, with particular attention to the intersections of science, medicine, and visual technologies. Key areas include the history of microscopy, the senses, popular science, and the health humanities. She has published extensively, including the upcoming book Writing Embodiment in Victorian Microscopy: Beautiful Mechanism (Oxford UP, 2025) and Revising the Clinic: Vision and Representation in Victorian Medicine and the Novel (2010).
Recent articles explore themes such as microscopical culture, medical diagnosis in literature, and the role of technology in Victorian narratives. Her work has been recognized with awards including an NEH Faculty Fellowship (2017–18) and a Dibner Fellowship (2020). She serves as a Series Editor for the Routledge Historical Resources: Nineteenth-Century Science, Technology, and Medicine and is a founding member of FSU’s Health Humanities Initiative.
