Dr. Mediha Sorma is a Lecturer in the Department of Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies at the University of Washington. She earned her Ph.D. in Feminist Studies from the University of Washington in 2023, an M.A. in Critical and Cultural Studies from Bogazici University in 2015, and a B.A. in Translation and Interpreting Studies from Bogazici University in 2007.

Her research focuses on statelessness, subaltern politics, and militarization in contemporary Turkey, with particular emphasis on the role of women in Kurdish resistance movements and transnational queer politics. She explores intersections of critical race theory, feminist theory, and transnational studies.
Her 2023 dissertation, Militant Mothers of the Kurdish Resistance: Statelessness, Mothering and Subaltern Politics in Contemporary Turkey, analyzes the gendered dimensions of Kurdish resistance through narratives of motherhood. Her courses include Sexuality and Queer Politics: Transnational Perspectives and Introduction to Transgender Studies. Her work engages with themes of reproduction, sexuality, and Turkish women of color.
