Meda Higa is an Associate Professor of Biology at the Kinsley School of Engineering, Sciences and Technology at York College of Pennsylvania. Her research focuses on virus-host interactions, particularly viral entry into cells through studies of Hantaviruses and their glycoprotein structures.
- Education: Ph.D. in Oncological Sciences from the University of Utah; Postdoctoral training in Virology at the University of Pennsylvania.
Meda's work combines molecular biology and structural analysis to understand viral pathogenesis. She has published extensively on pseudovirion production, neutralization mechanisms, and nuclear pore complex proteins.
Her recent publications highlight trends in hantavirus tropism, antiviral strategies, and protein structure-function relationships.
- Scientific Awards: Keystone Symposia Minority Travel Scholarship (2008), American Society for Cell Biology Travel Grant (2006), Regents Scholar (University of California, Santa Cruz, 1994-1998).
Meda serves on professional associations including the American Society for Microbiology and SACNAS, advocating for diversity in STEM. She teaches courses in Molecular Biology and Virology at York College.
