Meaghan Hancock serves as an Assistant Professor at the Vaccine and Gene Therapy Institute (VGTI) within Oregon Health & Science University, specializing in viral pathogenesis and vaccine vector development.
Her academic background includes:
- Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology from McMaster University (2004)
- Ph.D. research at University of Alberta on herpes simplex virus proteins VP16 and ICP0
- Postdoctoral training at VGTI under Dr. Jay Nelson studying human cytomegalovirus (CMV) miRNAs
Her research integrates virology and immunology to investigate how viral proteins and microRNAs manipulate host signaling pathways, with emphasis on engineering CMV-based vaccine vectors through tropism modification. Current work focuses on elucidating immune responses to viral infections using molecular techniques to overcome innate barriers in viral gene expression.
VGTI provides the primary research infrastructure for her investigations into herpesvirus-host interactions and vaccine platform development.
