Meagan D. Allen is an Instructor in the Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC). She holds a Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from Mississippi University for Women (2010) and a Bachelor of Arts in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Southern Mississippi (2008). Certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), her clinical expertise focuses on pediatric feeding/swallowing disorders, cognitive-linguistic skills, and complex medical cases in infants and adolescents.
Her professional roles include providing services at Batson Children’s Hospital in acute care, rehabilitation, and outpatient modified barium swallow studies. She coordinates pediatric weekend/holiday services and serves on the department’s Best Practices Committee. Allen has received multiple awards for clinical excellence, including ASHA’s ACE Award (2016) and the Extra Mile Award (2014).
Teaching responsibilities include mentoring otolaryngology residents, nurse practitioners, and student clinicians. She has supervised interns such as Katie McLaughlin and Claire Gremillion, and presented on topics like ankyloglossia, ventilator management, and dysphagia at national and international conferences. Professional memberships include ASHA’s Special Interest Group 13 (Swallowing Disorders) and the Mississippi Speech-Language-Hearing Association (MSHA).
