Md Shahidul Islam is a Lecturer in Accounting at Essex Business School, University of Essex, where he has worked since August 2022. Prior to this, he held academic roles at the Universities of Suffolk, De Montfort, Coventry, and Dhaka. He earned a PhD in Accounting from Cardiff University and an MSc in Accounting and Finance from the University of Manchester, both fully funded by scholarships.

His research focuses on corporate governance, sustainability performance, carbon finance, and financial distress. He has presented at conferences like the British Accounting and Finance Association (BAFA) and the Journal of Corporate Finance conference at EDHEC Business School. His work has been published in journals such as International Review of Financial Analysis and Energy Economics.
Shahidul teaches modules including Taxation Policy and Practice (BE142), Professional and Academic Development (BE907), and Dissertation in Accounting (BE980). He supervises PhD students in accounting, such as Turki Sulaiman O Aldhwaihi and Favour Iyanuoluwa Olorunsomo. He is a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy and a member of the British Accounting and Finance Association.
