معرفی
Dr. Mayara Maggioli serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Veterinary Pathobiology at Oklahoma State University's College of Veterinary Medicine. Her academic journey includes a DVM and MS from Federal University of Goias (Brazil) and a Ph.D. in Immunobiology from Iowa State University (2016). She previously held a Research Assistant Professor position at OSU from 2019-2021 before advancing to her current Assistant Professor role.
Education:
- Ph.D., Immunobiology, Iowa State University, 2016
- DVM, Veterinary Medicine, Universidade Federal de Goiás, Brazil, 2007
- MS, Veterinary Medicine, Federal University of Goias, Brazil
Dr. Maggioli's research focuses on veterinary immunology with specialization in bovine immune responses to viral and bacterial pathogens. Her work investigates host-pathogen interactions, disease biomarkers, correlates of protection, and vaccinology for livestock diseases. She examines respiratory diseases, particularly bovine respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV) and influenza D virus, with translational relevance to human health through One Health approaches. Her laboratory studies adaptive immune responses, viral pathogenesis, and mechanisms of immune evasion by veterinary pathogens.
Her scholarly output reveals consistent focus on viral pathogenesis in livestock, with particular emphasis on Senecavirus A, bovine viral diarrhea virus, and respiratory pathogens. Her research integrates molecular virology, immunology, and environmental science to understand virus survival, transmission dynamics, and host immune responses. Recent work explores antiviral compounds, vaccine development, and innovative diagnostic approaches for veterinary pathogens.
Grant Funding:
- USDA-funded projects on vaccine adjuvants, BRSV vaccine development, and BVDV effects on T-cell receptors (2024-2026)
- USDA research on virus viability in decomposing tissues and BVDV effects on thymus function
- Oklahoma State University Research Advisory Committee grants for RSV infection models and Influenza D pathogenesis studies
Dr. Maggioli actively contributes to academic service through peer review for over 15 journals including Viruses, Frontiers in Veterinary Science, and PLoS ONE. She serves as a Guest Editor for Frontiers in Veterinary Science and maintains professional memberships in the American Association of Immunologists and American Association of Veterinary Immunologists. Her teaching portfolio includes Veterinary Immunology (VMED 7253) and Veterinary Virology (VMED 7454), along with supervising PhD research.
