Maya Prabhu is an Adjunct Associate Professor of Law at Yale Law School and an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine. She holds degrees from Harvard College (A.B., 1994), London School of Economics (M.Sc., 1995), Dalhousie Faculty of Medicine (M.D., 2001), and McGill Faculty of Law (LL.B., 2002). Her professional career bridges law, medicine, and psychiatry, with expertise in forensic psychiatry, refugee health, and climate migration.
Her research focuses on the intersection of health and international law, including psychological impacts of legal systems and global migration policies. She consults for legal organizations on mental health in litigation and advises high-risk forensic cases for the State of Connecticut. Previously, she practiced corporate litigation at Davis Polk & Wardwell and contributed to the Volcker Inquiry into U.N. Oil-for-Food Programme corruption.
