Maya Nadimpalli

Dr. Maya Nadimpalli is an Assistant Professor jointly appointed in the Gangarosa Department of Environmental Health and the Hubert Department of Global Health at Emory University's Rollins School of Public Health. She is also affiliated with the Population Biology, Ecology, and Evolution (PBEE) program and the Genetics and Molecular Biology (GMB) division. Her research focuses on antibiotic resistance, integrating genomic and epidemiological approaches to study human-animal-environment interfaces.

• Antibiotic resistance spillover at human-food animal interfaces in low/middle-income countries.
• Racial/ethnic disparities in drug-resistant infections globally.
• Role of breastfeeding and gut microbiome in protecting against pathogen colonization.
• Impact of environmental factors like water sanitation on AMR transmission.

Lab Activities: The Nadimpalli Lab uses environmental microbiology, genomics, and epidemiology to study AMR in vulnerable populations. Current projects include wastewater-based surveillance in Atlanta, gut microbiome studies in Peru, and investigating AMR in wet markets and industrial farming systems.

Grants & Training: Offers training opportunities through PBEE and Gangarosa EHS PhD programs. Supervises MPH thesis students in Environmental Health, Global Health, and Epidemiology.

Key Contributions: Pioneered studies on AMR inequality in the U.S., demonstrated breastfeeding's protective role against AMR pathogens, and highlighted AMR risks in Cambodian wet markets and Mozambican poultry systems.
