Dr. Maximilien Desservettaz is a Research Fellow at the University of Wollongong, affiliated with the Faculty of Science, Medicine and Health (SEALS) and the Department of Chemistry. His work focuses on atmospheric chemistry, biomass burning emissions, and air quality impacts.
- PhD in Atmospheric Chemistry (University of Wollongong, 2018)
- BSc and MChem in Chemistry (University of Leeds, 2013)
- Diploma in Chemistry (University of Rouen, 2010)
Max's research spans biomass burning smoke composition and aging, volatile organic compounds, and climate-related atmospheric processes. He employs field campaigns, UAV-based sensors, and modeling to study fire emissions, pollution transport, and community health risks.
His recent publications highlight advancements in emission factor modeling, methane inventory validation, and UAV sensor development. Key trends include smoke composition analysis, air quality impacts of prescribed burns, and cross-regional pollution transport studies.
- Co-chair, IGAC-iCACGP ECR Scientific Steering Committee (2023-2024)
- Member, international Commission on Atmospheric Chemistry and Global Pollution (2025-present)
Max has supervised chemistry courses for engineers and non-chemists. He collaborates globally, with fieldwork in Australia, Antarctica, Brazil, and Europe, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to wildfire management and atmospheric health.
