Dr. Maximilian Sternberg serves as Associate Professor at the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Architecture and History of Art, University of Cambridge. He holds key leadership positions including Deputy Head (Teaching), Director of Graduate Studies, and is a fellow of Pembroke College. Sternberg also serves as Director of Studies for Architecture in both Pembroke and St Catharine's Colleges and deputy director of the Centre of Urban Conflicts Research.
His research focuses on the intersection of architectural history, philosophy, and urban conflicts. Sternberg examines how built environments reflect and influence social and political tensions in urban settings, with particular emphasis on contested urban spaces. His work connects architectural theory with real-world urban challenges and political contexts.
Sternberg received his PhD in the History and Philosophy of Architecture in 2007 from Cambridge University. After post-doctoral scholarships in Paris and Rome, he returned as a Research Associate for the ESRC-funded project 'Conflict in Cities and the Contested State' before being appointed university lecturer in 2009.
