Maximilian Palmié

Maximilian Palmié is a Professor of Technology & Innovation Management and Senior Lecturer of Energy & Innovation Management at the University of St. Gallen (HSG), leading the Sustainability Innovation Lab at the Institute of Technology Management. He holds a Habilitation (2021) and PhD (2013) in Management from HSG, with a Diplom-Kaufmann from the University of Mannheim and Trinity College Dublin (2010). His research focuses on sustainability transformations, scaling strategies, smart cities, and energy management.

Research Interests: Professor Palmié’s work addresses key challenges in sustainability innovation, including scaling digital solutions, sustainable business models, and smart city development. He explores paradox management in leadership, public-private collaboration for grand challenges, and the strategic implications of Industry 4.0 for supply chains.

Projects: He leads initiatives such as the EU Horizon 2020-funded “Smarter Together” and the SCCER CREST project, focusing on energy and urban sustainability. His work bridges theory and practice, emphasizing innovation ecosystems and business model design.

Labs & Teams: Heads the Sustainability Innovation Lab and previously the Energy Innovation Lab, fostering interdisciplinary research on energy transitions and sustainable technologies.
