Maximilian Fichtner

Prof. Dr. Maximilian Fichtner is a Professor of Solid-State Chemistry at the University of Ulm and Director of the Helmholtz Institute Ulm for Electrochemical Energy Storage. A leading expert in battery research, he pioneered rechargeable magnesium-sulfur batteries and sustainable storage materials. He received the 2024 Ulm City Science Prize for his groundbreaking contributions to energy storage science.

Fichtner leads Germany's POLiS Cluster of Excellence and coordinates the Center for Electrochemical Energy Storage Ulm-Karlsruhe (CELEST). His research focuses on developing post-lithium battery technologies using abundant materials. He actively communicates scientific advancements to the public, addressing misconceptions about electromobility.
