Maxime Heroux-Legault is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of British Columbia (Okanagan Campus), affiliated with the Irving K. Barber Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. His research focuses on Canadian Politics, Electoral Studies, and Political Methodology, with a particular emphasis on voting behavior, regional political values, and the impact of electoral systems. He holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Toronto, an MSc from Université de Montréal, and a Bachelor’s in Political Science and Philosophy from the same institution.
His work spans empirical studies on substate political variations, nationalism, and experimental approaches to electoral systems. Notable publications include analyses of Quebec public opinion under the Harper government, advancements in political cleavage research, and methodological contributions to Canadian political science. Two of his articles were shortlisted for the best article award in Regional and Federal Studies (2017 and 2016). He teaches courses in Canadian Politics, Research Methods, and Election Studies.
Dr. Heroux-Legault’s research often intersects with broader questions of democratic representation and regional identity, leveraging quantitative methods to explore voter behavior and institutional impacts. His work contributes to debates on federalism, electoral reform, and the evolving nature of political engagement in Canada.
