Max Robert Louis Piana is a Lecturer in Landscape Architecture and Visiting Lecturer specializing in Plant Science and Forest Ecology at Harvard University's Graduate School of Design (GSD). He holds a PhD in Ecology and Evolution from Rutgers University, a Master of Environmental Management from Yale School of the Environment, and a BA in Environmental Studies and Psychology from Wesleyan University.

His research focuses on urban ecosystems, climate adaptative responses in plant populations, forest assisted migration, and community-based science initiatives. His work integrates ecological science with urban planning, emphasizing green infrastructure and biodiversity preservation.
Max advises municipal projects like Philadelphia’s “Philly Tree Plan” and has received grants for community-driven restoration efforts. He teaches courses such as Urban Soil Studies, Ecological Restoration, and Ecologies, Techniques, Technologies III at the GSD.
