Dr. Max F. Rogland serves as Research Professor of Old Testament at Erskine Theological Seminary (graduate school of Erskine College) and is an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). He currently pastors Rose Hill Presbyterian Church in Columbia, SC, following previous pastoral service at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Rochester, MN.
His academic credentials include a PhD in classical Hebrew from Leiden University and an MDiv in biblical studies from Covenant Theological Seminary. Rogland specializes in Old Testament exegesis with focused expertise on Ecclesiastes, Obadiah, Haggai, Zechariah, Esther, and Ruth, contributing significantly to major reference works including the ESV Expository Commentary, ESV Study Bible, and Baylor Handbook on the Hebrew Bible series.
His research output demonstrates deep engagement with Second Temple Judaism, temple/priestly imagery, narrative analysis, and post-exilic prophecy, as evidenced by his 2017-2019 publications spanning journal articles, encyclopedia entries, and edited volumes. Rogland actively bridges academic scholarship with practical ministry through his pastoral role, directorship of Classical Conversations' Challenge IV Program, editorial board membership for the Journal for the Evangelical Study of the Old Testament, and contributions to Tabletalk Magazine.
