Maurizio Spina

Maurizio Spina is an Associate Professor of Urban Planning and Techniques at the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning, University of Catania. He has been a faculty member since 2004, initially as a Ricercatore (Researcher) and promoted to Associate Professor in 2023. His research focuses on cross-disciplinary urban-territorial planning, innovative mobility systems like aerial tramways, urban quality, aesthetics, UNESCO sites in Sicily, cultural heritage, and green infrastructure. He has coordinated the "Laboratory for Urban Landscape and Mobility" since 2004 and organized seven editions of the Architecture and Urban Design Workshop on coastal territories in Ragusa.

His academic work intersects with territorial ecology, mobility, and energy, particularly in southern Italy. He has participated in international collaborations, including a 2000 workshop with the Delft University of Technology and the University of Chieti-Pescara. Spina's institutional roles include serving on the Department Board (DICAr) 2020-2024, the Academic Council in 2022, and as CInAP representative for disability integration at the University of Catania since 2008.
