Alessandro Giuffrida is an Associate Professor of Analytical Chemistry at the Department of Chemical Sciences, University of Catania. He serves as Vice-President of the Order of Chemists and Physicists of Catania (2017–2025) and holds national scientific qualification as a full professor in Analytical Chemistry (2018). His roles include Scientific Director for collaborations with the Syracuse Public Prosecutor's Office, Carabinieri Scientific Investigations Unit, and Catania Customs Agency.
- Bachelor's and PhD in Chemical Sciences (Analytical Chemistry) from University of Catania (2004)
Research Interests: Focuses on Forensic Analytical Chemistry (narcotic detection, explosives analysis, crime scene reconstruction), Antibiotic Resistance (molecular mechanisms, biomarker development, therapeutic efficacy), and Pharmacologically Active Principles (neuropathic pain drugs, pharmacokinetics, HPLC-MS/MS methods). Collaborations span CSIC Madrid (Foodomics), University of South Florida, and Italian police agencies.
Scientific Contributions: Authored a chapter on Chiral Ligand-Exchange Capillary Electrophoresis (2010) and co-authored A Conceptual Approach to the Teaching of Chemistry (2012). His work on chiral separation techniques earned the Josè Antonio Garcìa Domínguez Award (2007).
Teaching & Leadership: Delivers courses in Analytical Chemistry III, Environmental Analytical Techniques, and International Doctorate in Chemical Sciences. Serves as Scientific Director for research agreements and leads the Forensic Analytical Chemistry Working Group of the Italian Chemical Society.
