Dr. Maurizio Sibilla serves as Associate Professor of Architecture and Building Performance at the University of the West of England (UWE), conducting research within the CABER group. Previously, he held positions including Senior Lecturer in Architectural Technology and Senior Research Fellow in Sustainable Construction at Oxford Brookes University, and lectured at La Sapienza University of Rome from 2003-2017.
His academic credentials include:
- PhD in Environmental Design and Engineering (2011, La Sapienza University of Rome)
- Master in Ecology of Landscape and Environmental Planning (2007, La Sapienza University of Rome)
- 5-year Master Degree in Architecture (2002, University of Roma Tre)
Dr. Sibilla's research centers on energy transition in the built environment, specifically investigating urban and architectural design implications of new energy infrastructural paradigms like Positive Energy Districts (PEDs), Positive Energy Blocks, and Positive Energy Buildings. His work bridges technology and design culture through empirical and theoretical studies published in relevant journals. He also pioneers Transformative Pedagogy to implement interdisciplinarity in architectural education, equipping future architects with competencies for low-carbon transition.
His scientific recognition includes the Marie Curie Fellowship (2017-2019). He has secured substantial research funding through collaborations with leading institutions and industrial partners across the UK, Italy, and China.
Dr. Sibilla serves on the editorial board of the International Journal of Design Sciences and Technology (IJDST) and actively contributes to the CABER research group at UWE, advancing sustainable building performance and urban energy systems.
