Ilaria Montella is a Fixed-Term Researcher (RTDA) at the Department of Architecture, Roma Tre University, working on the research project "The ecological transition for self-sufficient urban districts. Climate mitigation actions and decarbonisation in proximity spaces" (2022). She holds a PhD in Architecture - Architectural Technologies from the University of Florence (2013-2017) and graduated in Architecture with full marks from Roma Tre University (2006).
Her research focuses on energy efficiency prediction models for building comfort and health, architectural retrofit design, urban resilience in housing emergencies, and climate mitigation scenarios. She specializes in energy modeling using both static and dynamic simulation software, applying these techniques to sustainable architectural design and urban planning.
Montella has received recognition for her work on the Solar Decathlon Europe 2014 project where her team won multiple awards. She serves as a CasaClima Energy Consultant and has contributed to national energy-climate planning activities at various governmental levels.

As an educator, Montella teaches Environmental Design Laboratory for the Master's Degree in Architecture - Urban Design and has supervised fifteen architecture theses. She has been a teaching assistant at Roma Tre University since 2007 and teaches at IED - Istituto Europeo di Design in Rome, focusing on energy efficiency in interior design.
Her professional practice includes energy consultancy and architectural design since 2007, integrating research findings into practical applications. She is licensed with the Order of Architects of Rome (2008) and serves as Contact Person for the "Sustainability" training course for the Order of Architects of Rome.
