Maurizio Cellura is a Full Professor of Engineering at the University of Palermo's Polytechnic School. He leads research in sustainability, renewable energy systems, and life cycle assessment (LCA), focusing on energy efficiency in buildings, circular economy strategies, and environmental policy frameworks. His work integrates LCA methodologies with engineering solutions to address climate change and urban sustainability challenges.
Research interests span solar energy technologies, positive energy districts (PEDs), hydrogen production pathways, biomass utilization, and waste-to-energy systems. He has pioneered studies on LCA applications in construction, energy systems, and agro-food supply chains. Over 200 peer-reviewed publications demonstrate expertise in environmental impact analysis, energy policy, and sustainable urban development.
Teaches courses on building physics, energy efficiency, and eco-design at the University of Palermo. Advises on EU-funded projects and collaborates internationally on sustainable energy transitions. Key contributions include developing decision-support tools for energy planning and advancing PED implementation in Mediterranean contexts.
