Dr. Maurits den Hollander is an Assistant Professor at Tilburg Law School, specializing in legal and institutional history of the Middle Ages and early modern period. His work integrates legal developments with social, economic, and cultural contexts. He holds a PhD from Tilburg University (cum laude, 2021) and an MA from Leiden University and the University of St. Andrews. His research focuses on insolvency law, urban governance, and accountability in the Dutch Republic.
Current projects include a monograph on his dissertation and leading the 'Professionals and the People' project, analyzing policy-making and governance in medieval/early modern Low Countries. He teaches courses like Global Legal History and History of Public Institutions.
