Maurice Stevens

Maurice Stevens is a Professor in the Department of Comparative Studies at The Ohio State University and serves as Associate Dean for Engagement in the College of Arts and Sciences. They also act as Faculty Director of the STEAM Factory and hold an adjunct position at Pacifica Graduate Institute. Stevens employs critical trauma theory and transformative pedagogies to explore intersections of identity, embodiment, and institutional structures.

Education includes a B.A. in Religion and Anthropology from Princeton University, and M.A./Ph.D. in History of Consciousness from UC Santa Cruz. Their research focuses on critical trauma theory, intersectionality, disability studies, and science/technology studies. They are currently working on the book Catastrophe’s Glow: A Critical Trauma Theory for Chaotic Times.

Publications span interdisciplinary cultural studies, including analyses of film, memory, and postcolonial discourse. Stevens advocates participatory leadership models and community-driven knowledge production, emphasizing embodied action and historicized social justice practices.
