Dr. Maurice L. Eastridge is a Professor and Senior Associate Chair in the Department of Animal Sciences at The Ohio State University, affiliated with the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES). He holds dual roles in extension and research, specializing in dairy cattle nutrition. His work focuses on optimizing feed strategies, particularly involving fat and fiber sources in lactating dairy cows, and analyzing milk fatty acid composition.
Dr. Eastridge earned his Associate and Bachelor of Science degrees from Eastern Kentucky University, followed by Master’s and Ph.D. degrees from Purdue University’s Department of Animal Sciences. He has been at Ohio State since 1986, contributing to undergraduate education through course leadership and advising ~30 students annually. He also advises graduate students and supports the Buckeye Dairy Club.
His research emphasizes practical applications for dairy producers, including feed efficiency, rumen health, and nutrient utilization. Recent studies explored cortisol measurement in horses and Salmonella risk factors in dairy cattle. He has received prestigious awards for his extension and research contributions, including the DeLaval Dairy Extension Award (2001) and the Applied Dairy Nutrition Award (2013).
As editor of the Buckeye Dairy News and Chair of the Tri-State Dairy Nutrition Conference Board, he disseminates evidence-based practices to industry stakeholders. His work bridges academic research with on-farm applications to improve dairy productivity and sustainability.
