Maurice Emmanuel Parent is Professor of the Practice in Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies at Tufts University, where he holds the Neubauer Faculty Fellowship (2019-2020). He is Co-Founder and Co-Producing Artistic Director of The Front Porch Arts Collective, a Boston-based theater company advancing racial equity through performance. His academic roles include teaching at Tufts, Boston University, MIT, and The Boston Conservatory, alongside over five years as a Performing Arts Specialist in Boston Public Schools.
Parent earned a BS from Carnegie Mellon University (2002) and an MA from NYU (2005). His performance career spans Off-Broadway and regional stages, including Actors’ Shakespeare Project, Huntington Theatre Company, and international work in Malaysia. Notable accolades include two Elliot Norton Awards (2008, 2017) and three IRNE Awards, including Best Director of a Musical (2019) for Breath and Imagination.
His work integrates racial equity advocacy with artistic innovation, exemplified by projects like Black Out promoting inclusive theater practices. Parent’s teaching focuses on acting techniques, Shakespearean performance, and career development, with courses like Acting for the Camera and Acting as a Career.
