Dr. Maureen McHugh is a Distinguished University Professor of Psychology at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP), recognized for her groundbreaking work in feminist psychology, the psychology of women, and violence against women. She founded IUP’s Women’s Studies Program and has led initiatives to advance women’s leadership in academia through programs like the Leadership Institute for Faculty Women. Her research focuses on women’s sexuality, aging, size bias, and the medicalization of women’s bodies. She holds leadership roles in the Association for Women in Psychology and the APA’s Society for Psychology of Women.
Dr. McHugh has authored over 50 publications and co-edited The Wrong Prescription for Women, critiquing medical practices affecting women. Her awards include the Christine Ladd Franklin Award and the Florence Denmark Award for mentoring. She advocates for social justice through transformative research and education, including courses on gender and violence.
