Maud van Merriënboer is a Lecturer and PhD candidate in the Department of Management and Organisation at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam’s Faculty of Social Sciences. Her research focuses on entrepreneurship, identity work, and the challenges faced by racial minority and women founders in technology start-up ecosystems. She explores themes such as authenticity, othering, historical context, and generational identity in entrepreneurial environments.
Education:

- Bachelor’s in African Languages and Cultures (Leiden University, 2017)
Her research interests include the intersection of identity, entrepreneurship, and systemic barriers, with a focus on marginalized groups. Recent work examines how historical contexts shape entrepreneurial narratives in regions like Phnom Penh and explores pandemic responses in African markets.
She has contributed to projects like the PEOPLE initiative, focusing on people-centered development approaches. Maud teaches courses such as Entrepreneurial Strategy and Improving Planetary Health, integrating social entrepreneurship principles.
Her activities include participation in conferences like the Academy of Management and the Granada International Doctoral Summer School in Entrepreneurship Research. She collaborates with institutions and consultancies, contributing to reports on entrepreneurial ecosystems and diversity.
