Steffen Mau is a Professor of Macrosociology at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (since 2015). Previously, he held professorial positions at the University of Bremen (2005–2015) and was a researcher at the WZB Berlin Social Science Center. His work focuses on comparative welfare state analysis, the sociology of quantification, European social structure, and social transformations.

- Quantification of social phenomena and its societal impacts
- European social configurations and transnational social integration
- Critical analysis of neoliberalism's societal effects
- Inequality, mobility, and middle-class dynamics
