Professor Mattias Green holds a Chair in Physical Oceanography at Bangor University's School of Ocean Sciences. His research explores tidal dynamics, climate interactions, and ocean circulation across geological timescales. He has held roles including NERC Advanced Fellow and led numerous international projects. Educated at Gothenburg University (PhD 2004), Green focuses on tidal energy, sea-level changes, and ice-sheet impacts. His work bridges paleoclimatology and modern environmental challenges.
Education: BSc Structural & Civil Engineering (Chalmers University), MSc/PhD Physical Oceanography (Gothenburg University).
Research interests include tidal mixing effects on climate, ice-ocean interactions, and the role of tides in Earth's evolution. Recent studies highlight microplastic dynamics, Proterozoic precession, and early Earth climate models. He has secured grants totaling over £1.5M, including NERC and Leverhulme funding. Supervised 9 PhD completions and currently oversees 8 students. Active in global collaborations, his research contributes to UN SDG goals on climate action and sustainable oceans.
