Mattia Viale is an Assistant Professor of Economic History at the Department of Economics, University of Verona. His research focuses on pre-industrial Italy, examining consumption patterns, material culture, economic inequalities, social mobility, and gender dynamics in labor markets, particularly in central and northern Italy between the 16th and 18th centuries. He is affiliated with the Department’s research labs, including VELE (Verona Experimental Lab in Economics) and the Visual Research Lab, and contributes to research centers like CRIEP (Interdepartmental Research Center on Public Economics).
Teaching modules include courses such as Business and Management History, History of International Trading, and Modern and Contemporary Economic History. His work integrates archival research with interdisciplinary approaches to uncover historical economic and social dynamics. He actively participates in departmental governance, serving on the Economics Department Council and various committees like the CORDI (Research Committee on Individual Data) and the Research Advisory Board (RAB).
