Matthieu Ratoslav Bloch is a Professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology's School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, where he joined in 2009 after postdoctoral work at the University of Notre Dame. His academic journey includes dual PhDs in Engineering Science from Université de Franche-Comté (2006) and Electrical and Computer Engineering from Georgia Tech (2008), preceded by an Engineering Degree from Supélec and an MS from Georgia Tech (2003).
Dr. Bloch's research addresses foundational aspects of telecommunications, focusing on information theory, error-control coding, wireless communications, and physical-layer security. His recent work spans covert communication over degraded channels, intrusion detection in HVDC grids, and sequential beam alignment reliability, reflecting interdisciplinary engagement with cybersecurity and signal processing.
He is a distinguished IEEE member, serving on the Board of Governors of the IEEE Information Theory Society since 2016, and has held editorial roles including Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Information Theory (2016-2019, 2021-present) and IEEE Transactions on Information Forensics and Security (2019-2023). He received the 2011 IEEE Communications/Information Theory Society Joint Paper Award and the 2025 IEEE Joy Thomas Tutorial Paper Award.
As Associate Chair for ECE Graduate Affairs (2021), he leads academic initiatives while maintaining active collaborations with NSF-funded projects (grants #1955401, #2148400). His co-authored textbook Physical-Layer Security: From Information Theory to Security Engineering (Cambridge University Press) exemplifies his contributions to security engineering education.
