Matthieu Honegger is a Full Professor of Prehistoric Archaeology at the University of Neuchâtel, affiliated with the Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences and the Institute of Archaeology and Ancient Sciences. He has directed the Swiss archaeological mission in Kerma, Sudan, since 2002.

With three decades of fieldwork in Switzerland and Sudan, Professor Honegger specializes in Holocene archaeology. He leads the Swiss archaeological mission in Kerma, conducting excavations and research in Sudan since 2002, with significant contributions to understanding pre- and protohistory of Nubia through material culture analysis.
