Matthieu Dupas is an Associate Professor of French Literature at Northwestern University's Department of French and Italian. He is currently a Visiting Professor at the Institute for the History of Representations and Ideas in Modernity (IHRIM) at ENS de Lyon (March-April 2024). His research focuses on 17th-century French literature, gender studies, and sexuality, with particular attention to gallantry, queer theory, and ethical dimensions in classical texts.
Education: PhD from Université de Paris III-Sorbonne Nouvelle (2015) and University of Michigan (2017). His recent monograph La Galanterie comme Mode de Vie (2023) examines love ethics in Corneille's works. During his visit, he collaborates with researchers on 17th-century literature and offers lectures on Corneille's plays, including Le Menteur and La Place Royale.
He is a key participant in the 15-year exchange program between Northwestern and ENS Lyon, emphasizing institutional and scholarly partnerships. His work bridges French literary history with contemporary gender and queer theory, contributing to debates on early modern social norms and literary ethics.
