Matthieu Dupas

Matthieu Dupas is an Associate Professor of French in the Department of French and Italian at Northwestern University’s Weinberg College of Arts & Sciences. He holds a dual PhD from Université de Paris III-Sorbonne Nouvelle (2015) and the University of Michigan (2016). His research examines gender, sexuality, and power dynamics in early modern and contemporary French literature, with particular focus on how gallantry rituals shaped modern heterosexual norms.

Current projects include I is Love (exploring Neo-Classical erotics) and a study of 21st-century queer literatures.

Teaching focuses on gender studies in literature, with courses like Female Consent in 17th-Century Fiction and Queer Autofictions. His work bridges early modern and contemporary discourses, emphasizing how literary forms articulate evolving gender and sexual norms.
