Matthias Schartner is a Lecturer at the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering at ETH Zürich. He previously worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at TU Wien and completed his PhD in Higher Geodesy there.

His research focuses on Space Geodesy, particularly Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI), including scheduling simulations, analysis technology, operations automation, and optimization using evolutionary computation and swarm intelligence. He contributes to the VLBI Global Observing System (VGOS) and satellite/spacecraft observations.
Current employment: Postdoctoral researcher at ETH Zürich (since 2020-10). Former roles: Postdoctoral researcher at TU Wien (2020-01 to 2020-09) and PhD student at TU Wien (2016-09 to 2019-12).
