Matthias Lutolf

Professor Matthias Lutolf is affiliated with the Roche Institute for Translational Bioengineering at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL Lausanne). He is recognized for his pioneering work at the intersection of engineering and biological sciences.

Professor Lutolf's research focuses on improving organoid technologies through innovative engineering approaches. His work centers on developing next-generation organoids by guiding cell-intrinsic self-patterning through engineered stem cell microenvironments. His laboratory investigates methods to enhance the precision, reproducibility, and scalability of organoid systems, with particular emphasis on creating models that better mimic human physiology for research and therapeutic applications.

On December 17, 2021, Professor Lutolf presented at the BIH Lecture Series with his talk titled 'Engineering Organoid Development,' organized in cooperation with the German Stem Cell Network (GSCN). His research has significant potential applications in drug development, disease modeling, and ultimately regenerative medicine, representing a critical advancement in creating more accurate human tissue models outside the body.
