Matthias Lütolf

Matthias Lütolf is a Full Professor at EPFL, holding positions in multiple departments: the School of Life Sciences (SV) within the Institute of Bioengineering (IBI-SV), the School of Basic Sciences (SB) in Management of Technology and Entrepreneurship (ISIC-GE), and the School of Life Sciences Education Unit (SSV-ENS). He specializes in biomaterials, tissue engineering, and regenerative medicine, with a focus on translational biomedical research and entrepreneurship.

His research interests span stem cell biology, biomedical engineering, and the development of advanced biomaterials for regenerative medicine. He actively collaborates on projects advancing clinical applications of engineered tissues and biocompatible materials.

Lütolf supervises numerous doctoral students and has mentored over 25 graduates. He contributes to teaching and educational leadership in life sciences engineering programs.

He maintains labs within the UPLUT unit and ISIC-GE groups, focusing on interdisciplinary research at the intersection of engineering and biological systems.
