Prof. Dr. Matthias Koßler is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Philosophy at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. He specializes in systematic epistemology, ethics, aesthetics, and the history of philosophy, with particular focus on Classical German Philosophy (e.g., Schopenhauer) and Early Romanticism. He currently leads the Schopenhauer Research Center and serves as President of the Schopenhauer Society. His research includes the historical-critical edition of Schopenhauer's writings and interdisciplinary projects like 'Schopenhauer Digital.'
He teaches courses such as 'Philosophy of Romanticism' and 'Texts on the Philosophy of Language in the 18th Century,' and holds editorial roles for journals and book series related to Schopenhauer studies. He is a member of multiple academic advisory boards, including the International Center for Arthur Schopenhauer Research and the Philipp Mainländer Society.
His professional activities include managing the Schopenhauer Yearbook and co-editing the 'Schopenhaueriana' series. His research also extends to conceptual history and philosophical methodology through collaborations like the 'Teorías y prácticas de la historia conceptual' project.
