Dr. Matthias Fischer is a Group Leader at the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology, where he heads the Protist Virology research group since January 2025. His work focuses on the biology of giant viruses and their parasites, exploring interactions between these entities and their hosts in marine ecosystems.
