Matthias Ecker-Ehrhardt is a senior research fellow and academic focusing on international politics and global governance. He previously held positions at the WZB Social Science Research Center Berlin (until 2013) and currently leads the German Research Foundation (DFG) project on international organizations' public relations at the Free University of Berlin. His academic journey includes a PhD in Political Science from the Free University of Berlin (2003) and postgraduate work at the University of Bremen. Ecker-Ehrhardt’s research interests span international politics, cosmopolitanism, humanitarian aid politics, and European integration. He has also held visiting professorships in International Relations at the Free University of Berlin and University of Leipzig.
His key research projects include analyzing the politicization of global institutions and the interplay between public discourse and humanitarian crises. Notable publications include edited volumes on global political dynamics and influential articles on international organizations’ discursive authority. Ecker-Ehrhardt’s work bridges theoretical frameworks with empirical analysis of institutional legitimacy and citizen expectations in transnational contexts.
