Matthew Worley is a Professor of Modern History at the University of Reading, serving as Department Director of Teaching and Learning. His research focuses on 20th-century British culture, political movements (including communism and fascism), and youth subcultures like punk. He has authored/co-authored influential works on punk music's cultural impact, protest songs, and far-right politics. Worley co-founded the Subcultures Network in 2011, fostering global collaborations on youth culture history. He actively engages with public history initiatives, including work with the Youth Club Archive and punk artist Scott King. His teaching spans modules on punk, political extremism, and British cultural history.
