Matthew Rossi is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of English at Barnard College, Columbia University. He holds an MFA from Columbia University (2010) and a BA from the University of North Carolina at Asheville (2000).
His research and creative work focus on the discomfiting intersections between human and natural spaces in the Anthropocene. He has received a faculty fellowship at the Corey Marsh Ecological Research Center, enabling him to develop programming in environmental humanities and lead a community-engaged course in participatory science. His writings explore themes such as ecological displacement, environmental ethics, and the uncanny relationships between humanity and nature.

He has also contributed to Electric Literature and participated in the 2023 Bread Loaf Environmental Writers Conference. Current projects include a novel and a book of short stories.
Matthew’s career includes grant-funded program development at MSU, leadership in faculty learning communities, and editorial roles for the Red Cedar Review and REO Town Reading Anthology. He actively bridges creative writing with environmental advocacy through interdisciplinary collaborations and public engagement initiatives.
