Matthew Porembka

Matthew Porembka, M.D., is a Professor and Chief of Surgical Oncology at Parkland Memorial Hospital and UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in gastrointestinal cancers, including liver, pancreas, stomach, and bile duct malignancies. His administrative roles include Medical Director of Surgical Oncology Clinics and Assistant Chief of Surgery.

Dr. Porembka holds an undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University and a medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He completed general surgery training at Washington University/Barnes-Jewish Hospital and fellowships in tumor immunology and complex surgical oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

His research focuses on surgical outcomes, healthcare disparities, and tumor immunology. Notable works address disparities in gastric cancer care among psychiatric patients and the efficacy of robotic surgery in elderly populations. He has received awards including the Dedman Family Scholar in Clinical Care and the Eugene M. Bricker Teaching Award.
