Matthew Plummer-Fernández is a British/Colombian artist and Senior Lecturer at the Creative Computing Institute, UAL, and Course Leader for BA Fine Art: Computational Arts at Camberwell College of Arts (UAL). He holds a PhD from Goldsmiths, University of London (2019), and an MA from the Royal College of Art (2009). His work bridges generative art, critical design, and internet art, critically examining algorithmic systems and contemporary culture. His research, including his thesis The Art of Bots, explores sociocomputational systems and computational art practices.
Notable awards include the Ars Electronica Award of Distinction (2014) and the FX Breakthrough Talent of the Year (2009). His works, such as Digital Natives and Disarming Corruptor, are in Centre Pompidou’s collection. He has held residencies at Somerset House Studios and fellowships at Goldsmiths’ Centre for Invention and Social Process. His teaching focuses on computational arts, from generative systems to game engines, and he has lectured globally at institutions like the Design Museum (London) and Transmediale (Berlin).
