Matthew Medlock is the Richard A. Schroeder Professor in Mechanical Engineering and Professor of Electrical Engineering at Vanderbilt University's School of Engineering. He serves on the Vanderbilt Institute for Surgery and Engineering (VISE) Steering Committee and directs the Medical Engineering and Discovery Lab (MED Lab).
His research spans medical engineering, biomedical engineering, surgical robotics, and medical device development. The MED Lab focuses on interdisciplinary projects that bridge engineering and clinical medicine to create innovative solutions for healthcare, emphasizing translational applications in surgical environments.
As a key VISE Steering Committee member, Professor Medlock drives collaboration between engineering and medical disciplines at Vanderbilt. His leadership in the MED Lab fosters partnerships with clinicians to develop next-generation surgical tools and diagnostic technologies, directly impacting patient care through engineering innovation.
