Dr. Matthew Mahar is Professor and Director of the School of Exercise and Nutritional Sciences at San Diego State University. His research focuses on measurement and evaluation in exercise science, physical activity promotion in schools, and youth fitness assessment. He developed classroom-based interventions like 'Energizers' and 'Take 10!' that integrate physical activity with academic instruction.
His scholarly work encompasses exercise testing protocols, physical activity measurement methodologies, and criterion-referenced fitness standards. Recent projects examine associations between musculoskeletal fitness and health outcomes in youth, validation of field-based fitness assessments, and strategies to reduce disparities in school-day physical activity.
