Matthew Lockwood

Matthew Lockwood is Associate Professor of History at University of Alabama specializing in British imperial history and global state formation. His award-winning research examines violence, migration, and legal systems across the British Empire.

Current projects include Island Refuge, analyzing British asylum from Roman times to climate migration, and Plague in the City of Gold, exploring epidemic policies in colonial India. His courses cover British imperial expansion, exploration history, and historical methodology.
