Joshua Teplitsky is an Associate Professor in the Department of History at Stony Brook University (SUNY), specializing in Jewish life in Central Europe during the early modern period. His research explores the intersection of Jewish communities with historical crises, such as epidemics, and their cultural resilience.
His acclaimed book, Prince of the Press: How One Collector Built History's Most Enduring and Remarkable Jewish Library (2019), examines the formation of a Jewish library in the 17th–18th centuries and its legacy. The work received the Salo Baron Prize (2019), Jordan Schnitzer Book Award (2020), and was a finalist for the National Jewish Book Award.
Currently, he is researching a plague epidemic in eighteenth-century Prague and its impact on Jewish social and cultural life. His expertise has been recognized in media outlets like Time Magazine and Times Higher Education.
