معرفی
Matthew Lloyd is a Novo Nordisk Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Oxford's Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics. His research focuses on understanding how histone modification readers regulate circadian rhythms and metabolic pathways to control glucose and lipid homeostasis, with potential implications for anti-obesity therapies. He is currently investigating a small molecule that enhances circadian rhythms and inhibits epigenetic reader proteins, demonstrating efficacy in preventing weight gain in diet-induced obesity models.
Education:
- DPhil in Physiology, Anatomy & Genetics (2023) under Prof. Dame Frances Ashcroft and Dr. Carina Ämmälä
- MSc Biochemistry (2018), University of Oxford
Research Interests: His work bridges circadian biology and metabolic disease, particularly exploring how chronic hyperglycemia impairs pancreatic beta-cell function and insulin biosynthesis. He has also studied circadian rhythms in hepatocyte glucose metabolism.
Key Findings: His studies reveal that altered glycolysis in diabetic beta-cells disrupts mitochondrial metabolism and activates mTORC1, contributing to impaired insulin production.
